How do I get Physiotherapy Services?
In Saskatchewan, you can make an appointment directly with a physical therapist to obtain physiotherapy services, as you would do with your doctor or dentist. You do not need to have a doctor’s referral. However, if you have health insurance coverage, check your policy. You may require a doctor’s referral in order to obtain reimbursement for your physical therapy treatments.
A doctor's referral is required for services provided through a hospital or long-term care facility.
No matter how you get to see a physiotherapist, you can be assured of high quality treatment from a licensed health care professional.
If you do not know a physiotherapist, check the Yellow Pages of your local telephone directory under the heading “Physical Therapists” or contact the Saskatchewan Physiotherapy Association.
Paying for Physiotherapy
Although coverage for some physiotherapy services can be obtained through Saskatchewan Health, the majority of people pay for physiotherapy through extended health benefit plans, their own money or a combination of the two.
There is no charge for physiotherapy services provided in hospitals or in long-term care facilities.
